As the swine world is preparing for a better 2022 in terms of Covid-19, preparations are underway for various large events like United Pork Americas and VIV Europe. Plus: a new precision piglet feeding tool has been introduced by Trouw Nutrition. Read it all in a recap of November’s pig business news.


Trouw Nutrition announces technology for piglet feeding

Trouw Nutrition, a Nutreco company, has announced Kinetio, a patented technology aimed to optimise the digestion of nutrients in young pigs. Kinetio, currently used in the Milkiwean product range, uses degradation kinetics (speed of digestion) to analyse insoluble and soluble dietary protein, starch and fibre in the feed. This is used to formulate a piglet diet that supports maximum nutrient absorption.

More Trouw Nutrition news, as the company completed the first pig study in a new validation farm in Spain. In 2019, the company teamed up with Inga Food and Nanta, resulting in the Arruego pig validation farm which aimed to evaluate, under real and practical conditions, the efficacy and practical applications of dietary and management solutions. In September, the official opening was held, and the first pig study has been completed.

United Pork Americas aims to unite swine business

The event United Pork Americas, taking place from April 19 to 21, 2022, at the Hyatt Regency Resort and Spa, in Orlando, FL, United States, aims to bring together many aspects of the international swine business. The 3-day event will provide a dip in education and training with presentations happening simultaneously in parallel rooms and translation into English, Spanish and Portuguese. The event comes with an expo, covering 3,000 m2.

VIV Europe preparing for 2022

Not only in the US preparations are underway for a live event once more, so is Europe as from May 31 to June 2, VIV Europe and Victam International are planned, to be held jointly in Utrecht, the Netherlands. VIV Europe is held once every 4 years, and brings together the global feed to food industry. About 600 exhibitors from 47 countries and around 25,000 visitors from 144 countries are expected. VIV Europe will include over 100 conference and seminar sessions.

5,300 visitors at the Dutch Pork Expo

The most recent edition of the Dutch Pork Expo and the Dutch Poultry Expo in the Netherlands presented 250 exhibitors jointly visited by 5,300 people. The Smart Animal Farming knowledge platform was launched during the events, which will be expanded further for future editions. The next Dutch Pork Expo will be held from 14-15 February 2023 in Den Bosch, the Netherlands.

Tetracore introduces PCR test to detect ASF virus

Tetracore has announced the licensing of their VetAlert African Swine Fever virus (ASFv) DNA diagnostic test kit by the United States Department of Agriculture Center for Veterinary Biologics. Manufactured in the US, it is the first USDA-licensed diagnostic product for ASFv.

DanBred establishes subsidiary in Belgium

DanBred has announced the establishment of subsidiary, DanBred Belgium, through which the company aims to increase local market presence and develop closer relations with customers in the area of swine genetics.

Hendrix Genetics opens a multiplier nucleus farm in Mexico

Hypor breeding stock in Mexico were previously supplied from Hendrix Genetics’ North American nucleus units. With the opening of a nucleus multiplier in Chihuahua, Mexico, customers can rely on genetic supply without any transport risks and long-distance travel for the pigs. The farm will house pure line and GGP stock for GP and parent stock. The first animals were placed in July and are expected to start supplying customers in July 2022.

De Heus acquires Masan’s feed business in Vietnam

De Heus Vietnam has signed an agreement with Masan to obtain control of 100% of the feed-related business of MNS Feed (100% ANCO and 75.2% Proconco), which covers 13 feed mills and 1 premix plant (total capacity of nearly 4 million metric tonnes). This will become the largest animal nutrition company active in the Vietnamese independent feed market. Strategic supply agreements will also see De Heus supply pigs and feed to Masan.

Serviagro becomes Roxell distributor in Chile

Roxell has appointed Serviagro as its official distributor for southern Chile. Becoming a distributor means Serviagro will now offer a wider range of Roxell products, including feed bins, feed transport systems, weighers, feeding systems and dispensers.

ADM unveils nutrition R&D lab in Switzerland

Animal nutrition company ADM has opened its new animal nutrition laboratory in Rolle, Switzerland. With a focus on sustainability, the lab has been established to support the development of science-based feed additives for livestock species, petfood and aquaculture.

Kemin begin work on clean-label protein ingredients facility

In Verona, MO, USA, Kemin has broken ground on a US$ 40 million investment – a production plant for Kemin Food Technologies to manufacture its Proteus portfolio of clean-label protein ingredients for meat, poultry and protein-based applications. The facility is scheduled to open in March 2023. The site will have an initial capacity to create applications for more than 45 million tonnes of meat, poultry and protein-based ingredients.
