May 2021 saw various take-overs and launches in the swine nutrition industry. Plus: More breeding pigs on transport to China and a special award for Nedap’s PorkSense at the CAHE in China.

Another 1,000 Genesus pigs shipped to China

In April, 1,030 purebred breeding pigs boarded a Boeing 747-8F aircraft at Stansted Airport (UK) and travelled over 8,000km to Chengdu Shuangliu International Airport (China). Transport company Intradco Global took care of the shipment on behalf of Genesus. The journey saw the transport company’s new pig lift in action for the first time. This pig lift enables the pigs to comfortably move from their transport lorry to their crates.

PIC and Nutrofar sign distribution agreement

Global pig breeding company, PIC, and Nutrofar, which specialises in the distribution of health and animal nutrition, have recently signed an agreement with the goal of growing together in the Spanish regions Andalusia, Murcia and Extremadura.

Hamlet Protein and DanBred develop feeding manual

Hamlet Protein has supported DanBred on writing a feeding manual, which is aimed at enabling farmers to maximise the Danbred piglet potential through optimised nutrition. Through this feeding manual the companies intend to provide a guideline on how to feed piglets in the most economical way, whilst addressing the increasing pressure on the use of additives and medication.

Meanwhile, Hamlet Protein, had an important visitor in its plant in Findlay, OH, United States. The company welcomed Robert Sprague – Ohio treasurer of state – and Tim Derrickson – director of Food & Agribusiness.

Cargill and InnovaFeed expand into swine feed

Cargill and InnovaFeed have extended their strategic partnership to bring feed options to additional segments of the animal nutrition industry. While their initial collaboration focused on aqua nutrition, the expanded partnership will include more species, starting with the use of oil derived from insects in swine feed.

DSM launches sustainability service

Royal DSM has launched a new intelligent sustainability service, Sustell, to drive improvements in the environmental footprint and profitability of animal protein production. The service is built around a platform connected to Blonk’s APS-footprint tool, together with an ‘Expert Center’. The Expert Center partners with animal protein producers, assessing the environmental footprint of their site using their actual farm and feed data, and develops case-specific intervention scenarios.

Singao launches new type of sodium butyrate

Singao in China has developed and synthesised sodium butyrate in its Ding Su G product (>98% sodium butyrate), which the company says features reduced butyric odour. It is applicable to all animals, is easily incorporated into feed, premixes, additives and animal health products, is released slowly in the stomach and intestines, and is made using crystalline matrix with interwoven structure. According to the company this is a novel technology.

Kemin acquires Bio-Cide International

Ingredient manufacturer, Kemin Industries, has acquired Oklahoma-based Bio-Cide International, a company involved in chlorine dioxide-based antimicrobial technology. The acquisition adds several new technologies to Kemin’s portfolio of antimicrobial and food safety solutions, including antimicrobial solutions for food processing, equipment, water and animal health applications.

EW Nutrition incorporates Carotenoid Technologies

EW Nutrition has now officially incorporated Carotenoid Technologies. The facility in Spain produces part of the feed quality and pigments portfolio which EW Nutrition acquired from Novus International in February. In May, the company name Novus Carotenoid Technologies changed to EW Nutrition Carotenoid Technologies. Although the name has changed, all other key data/info remain the same.

FrieslandCampina sells Nutrifeed to Denkavit

FrieslandCampina intends to sell its Nutrifeed animal nutrition business to Denkavit. The 2 companies will enter into an agreement for the supply of dairy by-streams to the animal nutrition industry. In December 2020, FrieslandCampina decided to fully focus its ingredients business for its customers on ingredient solutions for consumers in all life stages. Denkavit is an international player with a strong focus on young animal nutrition. The 70 employees will join Denkavit.

Evonik develops system solutions for swine gut health

Evonik has developed science-based system solutions for the gut health of weaned to growing-finishing pigs. The company says that this approach, which includes a tailored combination of its feeding concepts, amino acids, probiotics, services and consulting, makes it possible to keep animals healthy without the use of antibiotics, and to produce meat in a sustainable and economically profitable manner.

Menon adds co-packing facility for feed additive

Menon Renewable Products will expand its US capacity by adding a new co-packing facility. The announcement comes after a large contract for Menon’s MrFeed ingredient was placed by one of the largest producers of poultry and other livestock in the USA.

Nedap PorkSense grabs prize in China

Nedap’s PorkSense innovation was awarded the High-Tech Innovation Award at the recently held China Animal Husbandry Expo, held in Nanchang, China. The award was handed out at the “Bridging Sino-Dutch Business” side-conference. Earlier this year, the PorkSense innovation was also topic of a webinar in cooperation with Pig Progress.

Animal AgTech South America Summit goes virtual

In total 9 regional animal ag tech start-ups will pitch their innovative technologies at the virtual Animal AgTech South America Summit on June 30-July 1. Day 1 of the summit spotlights start-ups with solutions ready to disrupt agricultural practices and consumption habits in the region. Among the 9 ag tech companies, the company Alytix from Argentina is particularly interesting for the swine business as it has developed a bacteriophage platform to improve animal health.

EuroTier China 2021: together with AgriFuture

EuroTier China will open its doors from 18-20 October in Nanjing at the China Jiangsu Baima Agriculture International Expo Center. Besides the trade fair, visitors and exhibitors can expect a condensed conference programme and field trips. Together with the AgriFuture Conference China, which will focus on future trends in agriculture, EuroTier brings national and international experts from the animal farming industry on stage to exchange ideas on trend-setting topics.
