DSM-Firmenich to separate out Animal Nutrition & Health business

DSM-Firmenich has announced the initiation of a process to “separate out the Animal Nutrition & Health (ANH) business from the group”. According to the company, the business is driven by different dynamics to the rest of the Group, which has become more apparent with the challenges in the vitamins market. The company noted that the full potential of the business could be best realised through a different ownership structure for which all potential separation options will be considered and expects to be in a position to separate the business in 2025.

In addition, DSM-Firmenich announced a partnership with Donau Soja, an international non-profit organisation supporting sustainable European soya. This is to highlight the environmental footprint of animal feeds and feed ingredients using Sustell, the LCA platform for the animal protein value chain which enables the feed and animal protein sectors to precisely measure and improve their sustainability.

Renaissance BioScience partners with Vaccine and Infectious Disease Organization

Renaissance BioScience has partnered with the Vaccine and Infectious Disease Organization to target 2 diseases, as well as immune system function in pigs and piglets, using Renaissance’s yeast-based technology. One project will see yeast-based vaccines delivered orally for porcine epidemic diarrheal virus and porcine reproductive and respiratory syndrome virus, while the other will address gut health, immunity, and overall growth in piglets.

Weltec Biopower develops user interface for biogas plant control systems

The biogas plant control system from Weltec Biopower is receiving a general update, including new functionalities for process optimisation as well as a user interface that provides a quick and comprehensive overview of the entire plant. The web-based software gives operators complete and fast access to all important system parameters, while a customisable dashboard provides an overview of the most important process data at any time.

DuBreton calls for support for animal welfare and organic practices

DuBreton has been fighting for the Convention des Producteurs de Porcs du Québec to be adapted to the particularities inherent in the production of specialty pigs (organic and Humane Certified), and now the company is launching a petition to ask for the support of all consumers concerned about animal welfare and organic practices in its request to be excluded from the Plan Conjoint de mise en marché collective des porcs du Québec.

Cargill and DSM-Firmenich release latest mycotoxin reports

In its most recent World Mycotoxin Survey (January – December 2023), DSM-Firmenich collected and analysed 23,808 samples from 95 countries. The results concluded that Fusarium mycotoxins fumonisins, deoxynivalenol and zearalenone are most frequently found, with the highest regions of mycotoxins found in North and Central America, South Asia, China and Taiwan. The report noted that over 80% of swine feed material samples revealed multiple mycotoxins, with only 6% below detection limits.

Meanwhile, Cargill‘s world mycotoxin report contains more than 350,0000 mycotoxin analyses captured annually across 150+ feed plants, on-farm samplings and storage locations. This year’s report includes forage samples, capturing 17,000+ forage mycotoxin analyses globally. The report noted that while there was a slightly reduced intensity compared to 2022, the percentage of positive samples remains notably high.

Hypor strengthens position in the US

Hypor, as part of Hendrix Genetics, strengthens its presence in the US swine market with the acquisition of KC Air Pork LLC breeding stock. Additionally, Hypor and Cornbelt Livestock Services have partnered to provide nutrition and consulting services.

EuroTier 2024 preparing for a busy show

EuroTier 2024 will take place from 12-15 November in Hanover, Germany with some 2,000 exhibitors from 51 countries already attending. For the first time at EuroTier, there is focus on suppliers at a dedicated area at EuroTier for suppliers’ solutions that support manufacturers of technical equipment and services.

Northern Irish vet wins at WVA Global Veterinary Awards

The World Veterinary Association (WVA) and Ceva Santé Animale announced Dr Simon Doherty from Belfast as the winner of the One Health category in the forthcoming WVA Global Veterinary Awards. He was nominated by the British Veterinary Association, with the support of the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons (UK) and of the World Aquatic Veterinary Medical Association for his contributions to One Health.
