The pig sector in Argentina can do with extra support. That is why the Gitah Porcino Group was established, aimed at knowledge transfer between the Netherlands and Argentina. With the support of 11 Dutch companies, a series of 6 webinars was recorded to address practical challenges and solutions. This first episode gives a general introduction in optimising the pig production chain.

The webinars by Gitah Porcino, each with a different theme, will be published online one by one in the early months of 2022. All webinars will be recorded in English, but are subtitled in Spanish. Pig Progress editor Vincent ter Beek joined in to host the webinars, which were recorded in The Hague, the Netherlands.

The Dutch pig sector

Dr Eva Gocsik from Hungary is an analyst animal protein at Rabobank Food and Agribusiness Research department. She discusses the progress and experience that the pig industry in the Netherlands has gained over recent years.

Pig data turned to profits

Also joining the conversation, although remotely, is Francisco Tascón, a veterinarian by training who currently holds the position of sales manager for software solutions company AgroVision in Latin America. He discusses how to use data to improve profitability in pig production.

Pig housing in the Netherlands

Back in the studio in the Hague, the Netherlands, the webinar turns its focus to ‘The Dutch Barn’. Gerjan Husiman, owner of Practical Pig Solutions and speaking on behalf of the Veldman Group, specialists in pig barns, presented some important aspects to consider when it comes to housing, highlighting that numerous options exist.

Skills, development and training

Finally, Janneke Janssens, co-owner of Roodbont Publishers, an international agricultural publishing company, discusses financial challenges and human resources to expand a pig production farm and the link to knowledge transfer and skills development and training.

This webinar ended with a roundtable discussion between all the presenters.
