Pharmacosmos continues expansion in Poland and Russia

Danish company Pharmacosmos continues its expansion. The company has launched its injectable iron supplement in Poland and Russia.

A recent introduction of the injectable iron supplement Uniferon to pig producers in both Poland and Russia marks yet two significant steps taken by Danish pharmaceutical company Pharmacosmos’ veterinary business.

The veterinary franchise has since 2005 worked intensively to expand its business globally and is presently marketing Uniferon in a large number of countries throughout the world.

“The introductions in Russia and Poland are important steps for Pharmacosmos and we believe our new partners in these markets to be good and professional matches for us,” said Jens Fabricius, vice president, Marketing & Business Operations at Pharmacosmos A/S.

Uniferon is approved in Europe, Asia and North America, including FDA approval in the United States.

A unique opportunity

“Having Uniferon in Poland is a great opportunity to give our piglets the best quality iron available. We believe Uniferon to meet the Polish farmers’ needs and expectations regarding the best available management and supplementation of their herds,” said Tomasz Paluch from Vetoquinol in Poland.

The Russian move also holds promise.

“The Russian market with its massive growth and focus on productivity represents a large business opportunity for us and hence a significant step in our continuous expansion,” said Jens Fabricius.

According to Dr Yury Kovalev, director general of the National Union of Swine Breeders in Russia, at the latest EPP Congress the industrial pig production in Russia is set to continue its massive growth to an astounding 36.6 million pigs in 2015.

“We expect a huge interest in Uniferon as it represents a unique opportunity for the pig producers to profit from one of the safest and most efficient ways of administering iron to newborn pigs,” said Mr Zemtsov, CEO at Pharmacosmos’ Russian partner Bioprom.

Moscow-based Bioprom is the country’s largest supplier of a wide range of veterinary preparations for animal disease diagnostics, prevention and treatment.
