Russian agricultural holding Miratorg, currently the largest pork producer in the country, has increased sales of products by 30% in the first quarter of 2015, stated the company.
The company’s sales amounted to 143,000 tonnes. At the same time the production of meat in consumer packaging during the corresponding period increased by 54% year-on-year to 9,600 tonnes. The production of ready-to-cook products is considered the most attractive segment of the market, so Miratorg has been steadily increasing its output during last year.
At the same time pork production of the company increased by 11% to 100,800 tonnes in live weight against 89,700 tonnes a year earlier. The growth has been achieved due to the launching of the new capacities of the agricultural holding in Kursk Oblast. The volume pork processing also rose by 11% year-on-year to 75,100 tonnes, says an official company report.
A number of Russian analysts at the beginning of the year warned that Russia’s largest agricultural holdings can face difficulties in the segments of pork and beef sales at market, due to the drop in incomes of the population – making Russian citizens shift to cheaper poultry production.
The director of the Institute for Agricultural Market Studies, Dmitry Rylko, commented that Russian agricultural holdings will partially benefit from a decrease in pork imports to Russia and this may help them to counter the decline in demand.
