Man charged after attempting to slaughter backyard pig

A 31 year old man in California, USA, has been arrested and charged with cruelty to animals, after he allegedly attempted to slaughter a large hog in his back yard.

According to Jason Ramos of the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Department, it appeared that Christopher Roppelt first tried to bludgeon the hog with some kind of blunt force. When that was unsuccessful he took some type of weapon and slit the pig’s throat.

The sheriff’s office was called after neighbours of the Fair Oaks apartment complex could no longer ignore the squealing.

Animal control officers and sheriff’s deputies put the hog out of its misery.

Roppelt has been charged with a felony
