The Food Standards Agency issued a Food Alert for Action because Watson’s Wholesale Meats and Savouries Ltd have produced bacon ribs and cooked pig stomachs in unapproved premises under unsatisfactory hygiene conditions.

It has not been possible to obtain full distribution details or product traceability records for the products involved because of the nature of the activities at the unapproved establishment. It is known that these products have been distributed to some retail establishments in the north west of England. However, it is possible that they may have been distributed to a wider area.

Products being recalled

All dates and batch codes of:

– bacon ribs

– cooked pig stomachs

– Any of the following brand names:

– Watson’s Wholesale Meat and Savouries Ltd

– Stephen and Lynzi Kenny

– Super Savouries

If you have bought one of the above products, do not eat it, but report it to your local authority.

Actions to be taken by local authorities

Local authorities in the north west of England are being asked to contact the relevant retailers in their area which may sell these products. If any of the implicated products are found during the course of their investigations, enforcement officers should ensure that the products are withdrawn from sale and destroyed, if necessary using powers under the Food Safety Act 1990.

Other local authorities are being asked to check for the supply of bacon ribs and cooked pig stomachs by Watson’s Wholesale Meats and Savouries Limited during the course of routine visits to establishments in their area. If implicated products are found during the course of their visits, enforcement officers should ensure that the products are withdrawn from sale and destroyed, if necessary using powers under the Food Safety Act 1990.
