Denmark have brought into effect this month (17 February) a new executive order making ritual slaughter legal but only if the animal is first stunned.
During the par 10 years no animal has been slaughtered in Denmark without pre-stunning.
With the new executive order, Denmark follows in the wake of a number of European countries, such as Sweden and Norway, which have similar regulations requiring the stunning of animals before slaughter.
The import of beef and other meats from animals that have been slaughtered without pre-stunning is still legal in Denmark.
