Brazil to ship pork to US next year

As of March next year Santa Catarina state in Brazil will be shipping pork meat to the US.

Thomas Shannon Jr., the US ambassador to Brazil, has said that “all formalities have been completed.” This means that Santa Catarina  will be the only state exporting pork meats to the US.

According to a report by g1.globo.com, Santa Catarina is the only state in Brazil globally recognised as free of FMD without vaccination.  The Brazilian Federation of Industries of the State of Santa Catarina (The Federação das Indústrias do Estado de Santa Catarina – FIESC), stated that six Santa Catarina companies are certified to export to the US.
