APK Invest, currently the largest pork producer in Ukraine is planning to construct a pig farm with the capacity to hold 1.2 million pigs in the Kursk region of Russia with a total investment amount of US$900 mln, according to the press service of the company.
The first vice-governor of the Kursk region, Alexander Zubarev, said that the first stage of the pig farm with the capacity of 10,000-20,000 tonnes of pork in live weight may be launched by the end of 2014.
At the same time by 2022 APK Invest according to the company, can reach a level of 100,000 tonnes production in live weight per year in Russia.
One of the main reasons for the upcoming opening of the production facility in Russia is the desire of APK Invest owners to diversify the risks of permanent trade disputes between Russia and Ukraine, according to the director of the Association of Pig Producers of Ukraine Arthur Loza.
“Unfortunately, the deterioration of political relations between Ukraine and Russia is affecting first and foremost Ukrainian companies, with its products dropping under sanctions of the Russian state services,” he said.
