The pig division of Russian company Agro-Belogorye has increased the total pig population and pork production by 5% in the first quarter of 2015 compared to the same period of last year.
The total amount of pig meat production in the first three months of 2015 amounted to 42,000 tonnes, according to the official report of the company.
Agro-Belogorye’s management pointed out that the growth has been achieved, mostly thanks to the implementation of a program to increase business efficiency at the pig farms.
In particular, this year the company’s pig farms increased the average daily gain of animals by 2.5% compare to the same period of 2014, while pig mortality has been kept at the small level of 1.8%, with a planned figure of 3.1%.
At the same time last year managing director of the company, Vladimir Zotov announced that due to the complicated economic situation a number of investment projects – construction of new pork production capacities – has been temporarily suspended.
Despite the strong results of the beginning of the year and improvement of market conditions Agro-Belogorye do not intend to renew all these projects. This year all the new investments of the company will be limited with the construction of the new selection and genetic center with the total cost of 500 million (US$ 9.5 million).
Also, currently Agro-Belogorye is building a second production complex for deep processing of pork in Belgorod Oblast. The total investment in the project is estimated at RUB 2.6 billion.
