US: Hog numbers plummet to low levels in North Dakota

04-01-2011 | |

It has been reported that hog numbers have dropped to its lowest level since 1899 in North Dakota, USA, according to the Agriculture Department.

From 143,000 hogs as of Dec. 1, the number fell by 12,000 when compared to the previous year, the North Dakota Agricultural Statistics Service said.

The cause of this plummet is reported to be due to a decrease in breeding and market inventory hogs.

In 1899, North Dakota recorded 120,000 hogs.
