US: Asian pork recalled for allergen

25-01-2007 | |

Water Lilies Food issued a voluntary recall on about 77,730 pounds of pork dumpling and won-ton products, the US Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service announced earlier this week.

The products are being recalled because their labels fail to list egg whites, which are a potential known allergen.

All the products have ‘EST. 21465’ inside the USDA mark of inspection.

Routine inspection

The problem was discovered through a routine inspection; no reports of illness have been reported.

The products were produced between December 11, 2006 and January 23, 2007 by the company, based in Astoria, New York, and shipped to distribution centers in New Jersey.

Class I label

The recall got a class I label, the highest classification given. This only happens when a there is a high risk that the use of the product could have serious, adverse health consequences or even cause death.
