Pork exports from Thailand are rising, the country’s Department of Livestock Development (DLD) revealed recently. The kingdom is said to be on track to export 15,000 tonnes worth €54.6 million this year.
Mainly the export products are processed pork, frozen pork and chilled pork. The major export markets for Thai pork are Japan, Singapore and Hong Kong.
Japan imports mostly processed pork products while Hong Kong imports both frozen and chilled pork and processed pork.
Last year, the country’s total export value reached €31.8 million and 11,581 tonnes in volume. Total export value already achieved €24.1 billion or 7,820 tonnes from January to August this year.
The DLD also encourages Thai people to consumer more pork. It believes pro capita consumption will increase from 11.73 kilogrammes in 2005 to 12.29 kilogrammes this year, with total consumption reaching 772,280 tonnes.
