Despite rising feed costs, more than half of pig and poultry farmers are looking to expand their businesses in the next three years.
A survey, conducted by organic feed manufacturer Hi Peak Feeds at last month’s Pig and Poultry Fair found 54 per cent of farmers were looking to expand, while a further 21 would ‘seriously consider it’.
Of the 81 farmers questioned, 70 per cent had a confident outlook, despite 91 per cent expecting feed costs to rise further. Countering the optimism were 11% of farmers who envisaged leaving the sectors altogether and 7% who could muster no confidence in anything.
