South Korea: High pork prices result in consumers opting for other meats

Foot and Mouth Disease in South Korea has caused the prices of pork meat to sky-rocket. As a consequence, consumers are choosing other meats that are cheaper.

Pork is now up 30% compared to last year.
 
According to the the Korea Rural Economic Institute, 80% of consumers have bugun buying alternative meats. In the survey, carried out by the institute, 750 consumers were questioned.
 
Consumers chose meat in this order:

  • Chicken
  • Domestic Beef
  • Duck
  • Imported beef
  • Pork
