South Africa’s African Swine Fever outbreak resolved

18-07-2012 | |

South Africa has reported to the World Animal Organisation for Animal Health (OIE) that the outbreaks of African Swine Fever earlier in the year have been contained and the issue has been resolved.

Dr Bothle Michael Modisane, chief director of the Department of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries, Animal Production and Health, in Pretoria, has reported to the OIE that the three outbreaks of ASF have been stamped out.

The outbreaks occurred on the same property, yet took place outside South Africa’s ASF control zone. In stamping out the virus, 713 pigs were destroyed.

The outbreak has been given the resolved status as of the 22nd of June.
