Russia has suspended imports of pork from Indiana Packers Corporation.
The ban comes after reporting the discovery of salmonella in a pork shipment, according to USDA’s Food Safety and Inspection Service.
The Delphi, Indiana based packer’s product will not be permitted into Russia effective November 24, FSIS has stated.
USDA not confirmed finding
According to reports, the USDA has not confirmed Russia’s reported finding of salmonella. “They have only reported these findings. We have no additional information,” said a FSIS spokeswoman Amanda Eamich.
According to Eamich, the latest action is not linked to an audit of US pork production facilities that Russian inspectors conducted last month. A report of the findings from that audit has not been released, she further stated.
