In the district Timashevsk, Krasnodar region a state of emergency has been declared, the cause of which was a new outbreak of African swine fever (ASF) in a major agricultural breeding plant located a few kilometers out of Timashevsk city.
The complex already culled 2400 pigs, but the specialists still couldn’t stop the spread of ASF and animals continue to die, according to representatives of Rosselkhoznadzor for the Krasnodar Territory. The complex has more than 39 thousand heads of pigs in total.
The regional management of Rosselkhoznadzor clarified that on January 10 there will be a meeting held with the regional emergency commission, where the first caution area will be determined. It will probably include the breeding plant, but also the nearest village “Industrial”, where there is currently about 15 thousand of pigs.
African swine fever situation getting worse
According to the Russian chief veterinary inspector Nikolai Vlasov, the situation with African swine fever in the Russian Federation is “progressively getting worse.” Moreover, frequent outbreaks of dangerous diseases – “is not rare but quite common which is an indicator of the existing structure, the result of the decentralization of veterinary services of the country.”
