Rise of Dutch piglet exports to Italy

11-10-2006 | |

The year 2006 is showing a large growth in Dutch piglet exports to Italy, in comparison to previous years.

Total exports to Italy until the first week of October was 260,000 head – as many as in the whole of 2004.

Compared to last year, a 33% growth can be seen, predominantly caused by an increase in Spring.

This development is in accordance with the Dutch piglet production’s emphasis on exporting. Moreover, Italy’s domestic piglet price has been increasing lately, making importing Dutch piglets more competitive.
