16-11-2007 | |

US Meat Export Federation (USMEF) reported a new record for pork and pork variety meat exports from the US in September.

Compared to September last year, both pork and pork variety meat exports have increased 8% in volume to 101,131 metric tonnes and in value by 10% to US$251m.

Pork export volume
In the first nine months of 2007, pork exports were valued at US$2.2b with a volume of 905,392 tonnes representing a 7% increase from the same period in 2006.

30% of the total export volume and 40% of total export value is generated in Japan – being the number 1 market for US pork and pork variety meat exports. Mexico comes in a close second. However, exports there have remained below last year’s levels, but according to the USMEF, are expected to increase due to holiday demand in the final quarter and competitive US ham prices.
