Pseudorabies in wild boars of Nebraska

Wild boars killed near Genoa, Nebraska, US, have tested positive for pseudorabies.

That message was sent out last weekend by the Nebraska Department of Agriculture.

Preventative measures

According to a press release, the department will be contacting pork producers in the surroundings to alert them of the situation and to advise them of preventative measures and symptoms.

In the meantime, the department is urging Nance County pork producers to be on the lookout for pseudorabies (also known as Aujeszky’s disease ) and to maintain strict biosecurity measures on their operations.

Nebraska is one of the most important pig producing states in the US.
