Prestigious pig award – nomination date nearing

Time is running out to nominate somebody to receive this year’s prestigious David Black Award for service to the pig industry.

This is the 50th year of the award which goes to someone who has made a significant and sustained contribution to the British pig industry.

Past winner have included producers, processors, academics, scientists and journalists, along with the Pig Health Control Association.

The winner will be selected by a panel of independent judges, chaired by BPEX director Mick Sloyan who said: “This year is very special as it is the 50th and I know from personal experience there are many deserving people in the industry.

“But the difficulty is always persuading them to step out of the shadows into the limelight to accept the plaudits of their peers.

“They always believe there are people out there who are more deserving but the truth is previous winners received the accolade because of the contribution they had made and were continuing to make.”
