The Czech agriculture ministry is to top-up EU subsidy assistance for pig producers.
Pig farmers are to receive an extra €2.8m from a financial reserve fund, according to the Dow Jones newsagency.
Agriculture minister Petr Gandalovic commented that this decision is “a first concrete step for pig producers in the current difficult climate. Further measures are to follow”.
At protest in the last few weeks, farmers had called for assistance amounting to €37.5m. Gandalovic, however, has stated that such requests are unrealistic.
