Pigs take trip across the US to avoid slaughter

21-05-2007 | |

While one little piggie may well have gone to market, 10 other, not-so-little, piggies were taken on a road trip across America to avoid market.

Annette Fisher, founder of Happy Trails Farm Animal Sanctuary, left Ravenna, Ohio, on Sunday morning (20 May, 2007) to travel over 4,000 kilometres to Elk Creek, California with 10 hogs in tow.

The purpose of the trip is to place the pigs in a new home where going to the slaughterhouse will never be an issue, and spread the message about humane treatment of animals.

The trip is to take five days with several stopping points for media opportunities.
