Piglets with diarrhoea helped by homeopathics
A homeopathic treatment can prevent diarrhoea problems in newborn piglets, a research by Wageningen University and Research Centre has shown.
Scientists looked for possibilities to use homeopathics as alternatives to antibiotics. On a conventional farm, 52 sows in the last month of gestation were treated with either the homeopathic treatment Coli 30K or a placebo.
Piglets from sows that received the homeopathic treatment proved to have significantly less diarrhoea than piglets from a test group. In addition, the diarrhoea was less serious, shorter in time and there were less cross-infections.
The treatment proved to work best in piglets from first-parity sows.
