Pig smells upon arrival in Dominican Republic

Pig smells are a big issue at the Cibao International Airport, near the city of Santiago de los Caballeros in the Dominican Republic.

Odour from nearby pig and poultry farms has driven local authorities, community organisations and terminal operators mad enough to organise joint actions.

During a meeting held this week, community leaders of the town of Licey raised various formulas to eliminate the smell and waste problems from the animals.

Blame
A spokesman of the community organisations said that public health and environment authorities are to blame for the problems, because in his view these were indifferent to earlier warnings.

He also criticised the ministry of environment, since it has yet to take action to stop those who pollute.
