Pig prices going down in EU countries

20-10-2009 | |

Prices for pig meat in several European Union countries have fallen sharply in a number of European countries over the last eight weeks, although there is a difference from country to country, the German website ISN reports.

In the last eight weeks, corrected prices for Irish finisher pigs dropped €0.08/kg but in Spain prices dropped €0.27/kg. In Germany, prices dropped by €0.21.

In some countries, like Germany, Austria and the Republic of Ireland, prices were able to stabilise in this week, whereas prices in the Netherlands, Denmark, France and Spain continued to drop. Prices in Sweden and the UK have dropped as well.

Whether prices for finisher pigs will continue to drop or will stabilise, will become clear in the next couple of days.
