06-02-2012 | |

According to a report by the World Organisation for Animal Health (OIE), pigs with vesicular lesions were found on two neighbouring pig farms in Kinmen county.

The testing result of collected samples from National Laboratory showed positive reaction to RT-PCR test and virus isolation confirming the serotype O of Foot and Mouth disease infection.

All 530 pigs were  destroyed and the cleaning and disinfection of the farms were completed.

Currently, clinical inspection and epidemiological investigation on the surrounding farms that keep cloven-hoofed animals within 3-km radius of the index farms are being carried out.

OIE Animal Health Information Department stated: This is the first occurrence of FMD serotype O South-East Asia (SEA) topotype.
