The European Union (EU) will introduce a veterinary crisis team that will be alarmed during outbreaks of infectuous animal diseases in member states and third countries.
The team will consist of virologists, vets and laborants.
At the moment, the EU sends out experts to areas where an outbreak of e.g. bird flu, Classical Swine Fever, bluetongue or Foot and Mouth Disease has taken place.
Often however it is difficult to react promptly, although the time factor is of major importance for fighting the disease.
Currently, to form a team, first experts have to be searched, and found available – this all takes a lot of time.
