Movement restrictions were lifted on the Northern Irish abattoir farm after a suspect sample of pigmeat tested negative on Foot and Mouth Disease (FMD).
On Tuesday, pigmeat showed leg lesions not uncommon to FMD or Swine Vesicular Disease in an abattoir in the county of Antrim. The pig was grown in the county of Down.
Precaution
As a precautionary measure and in accordance with EU requirements, on 8 January 2007 the Northern Irish Department of Agriculture and Rural Development (DARD) imposed some limited animal movement restrictions – waiting for laboratory tests to confirm whether the disease had broken out.
