A record average for pig meat was achieved at Dublin saleyards last week and the market is showing no signs of slowing down.
While prices came back slightly this week, House of Lindner’s Don Lindner said they should remain high for the coming months. “Quite often, after you’ve had a substantial jump you get a bit of a negative the following week but the market this week wasn’t a long way back,” he said. “We were thinking it could come back a bit.â€
“A record average price for baconers was set last week, at $2.90/kg, up from the previous record of $2.71/kg set in 2001 and this week they came back to $2.82.kg.” Pig numbers are still being chased by buyers, according to Lindner.
