FSIS: Notice on humane handling in livestock slaughter establishments

The Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) issued Notice 19-10: Humane Handling Activities and Documentation in Livestock Slaughter Establishments.

This notice reissues FSIS Notice 21-09 until it is incorporated into FSIS Directive 6900.2, Humane Handling and Slaughter of Livestock. The notice provides instructions for Public Health Veterinarians (PHVs) and other inspection program personnel to conduct humane handling activities randomly throughout their tour of duty.

The notice also includes information on conducting and documenting humane handling activities, dealing with noncompliance, Humane-handling Activities Tracking System (HATS)© categories, identifying noncompliance trends and data analysis.
