Fears are mounting in Finland that a strain of the Salmonella bacteria found in poultry feed may have been passed on to pig farms. The bacteria have now been detected in pig feed produced by feed producer Rehuraisio.
Finnish Food Safety Authority EVIRA is currently determining which pig farms may have received the feed. Meanwhile cleaning operations have begun at the plant of feed producer Rehuraisio as a precautionary measure. This will take about two days before feed production can be restarted. The company says its feed can be continued to be used as normal.
Salmonella was earlier discovered in poultry feed manufactured by Rehuraisio on Saturday. Production was immediately stopped.
