EU study to food poisoning: pork is secure
The consumption of pork is only of minor importance with regard to causes of food poisoning, German agricultural magazine Top Agrar reports.
The magazine based its information on a report by the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA), in which all 5,600 food poisoining cases throughout the EU in 2007 were considered.
Salmonella
Having a 40% share, Salmonella infections constitute the major part of all cases of zoonosis. The main transmittors however are infected eggs and pastry.
As second-most important cause for food poisoning, scientists point to viruses. Major contributors in these group are sea fruits and buffet meals.
Third are infections by Campylobacter, which are mainly caused by poultry.
