The European Commission will not issue support measurements for the European pig sector, the Dutch agricultural newspaper Agrarisch Dagblad reports.
That conclusion became clear after a meeting in Brussels, in the end of last week. Many countries, led by France, launched pleas for having export restitutions for exports to third countries. One more measure, possibly issued by the EC, could be private pork storage to relieve the market.
Frans van Dongen, lobbyist for the Dutch livestock and meat sector in Brussels, the EC is closely monitoring the situation – and he does not reject the idea support measures will be put in place at some point in the future.
