EU lifts bans on British meat

23-08-2007 | |

As from Saturday, August 25, all EU countries are allowed again to import meat, dairy and livestock from Great Britain.

The European Commission decided to lift the import ban as the Foot-and-Mouth virus does not seem to spread any further.

The import ban only remains in place for a small zone around the two farms in the county of Surrey, where the disease brok out in the beginning of this month.

Government
Earlier this week, the British government lifted most of the transport restrictions. As from today, British livestock can be brought to abattoirs again.

The disease outbreak remained confined to the two farms in Surrey.
