The Dutch meat wholesale trading company Van der Zee has announced to restrict its sales in meat from uncastrated pigs.
Mostly, the company trades in pork produced in the Netherlands and Germany.
Biologically produced pork
For biologically produced pork from Spain, Italy and the Netherlands, in which pigs are allowed to grow larger, a solution still has to be found. Since males are allowed to grow larger, boar taint is more likely to appear.
Actions by animal welfare groups have led to the majority of retailers in the Netherlands recently©moving to the sale of non-castrated pigs.
