Dutch McDonald’s bans meat from castrated pigs

03-10-2007 | |

The fastfood chain McDonald’s has announced that it is to stop selling meat from castrated pigs in the Netherlands.

“For pork in our products EggMcMuffin and Big Tasty Bacon we will switch to animal friendly pork,” commented spokesman Dirk van den Boogaart from McDonald’s Netherlands.

“This is because we switched to a different supplier. This supplier is from the UK and will supply meat from British pigs which are not castrated as from the end of October.”

He added that the decision was made for McDonald’s in the Netherlands. “McDonald’s Europe does want to discuss the issue as well though.”

Dutch animal welfare activists have applauded the move of McDonald’s.
