Danish Crown pork exports fell 18% during the first half of this year as increasing numbers of Danish pigs are being sent to Germany for finishing and slaughter.
Germany surpassed Denmark last year to become the second largest pigmeat exporter after the United States.
Meanwhile a business school study has pointed out that Denmark is still in the lead when it comes to slaughterhouse technology. However, Dansih Crown says it is no longer possible to balance increasing wages by increasing productivity, which is leading to an increase in the number of job terminations.
Wages in Danish Crown slaughterhouses have increased 25% since 2000, whereas in Germany they have fallen 5%.
