Croatia: Outbreak of classical swine fever

25-02-2008 | |

An emergency veterinary team was dispatched last Thursday to Croatia, in a bid to help contain an outbreak of classical swine fever.

The team will back-up the work of local authorities by providing scientific, technical and managerial on-the-spot assistance, the European Commission said in a statement.

The outbreak has occurred in the Crecan region in the northern part of Croatia near the Slovenian border. “In the case of animal diseases that are highly contagious and spread rapidly, a very quick reaction is indeed essential,” according to the Commission. “Efficient expert support is crucial in bringing the situation under control.”
