Chinese local authorities are moving fast to try to fight an outbreak of PRRS in the North of China, news agency Xinhua reports.

Officials have quarantined ten villages where pigs were found, infected with Porcine Reproductive and Respiratory Syndrome (PRRS) and so far they culled 936 infected pigs.

Vaccines for 165,000 pigs have been sent to Hong Tong county. In addition, 430 exposure suits, 4.1 metric tonnes of disinfectants and approximately 610 syringes for injections made their way up north.

Compensations
Authorities have also allocated 1 million yuan (approximately US $147,000) to compensate producers who lost animals.

The Chinese news agency also reported that two local officials were fired over this week’s discovery. In total, more than 1,000 pigs were found dead due to the recent outbreak.

China spent a lot of©money and efforts to contain©a massive PRRS©outbreak in 2007 that led to record pork imports and inflation in 2008.
