An ABC pig training programme has been announced in Canada and is offered through hog veterinarians to assist in detecting when pigs are in acute, subacute and chronic stages of disease.
Training hog producers
The progamme has been set up so that the training will include a workshop, with a half-hour training video on learning to identify pigs based on the classification as an A pig, B pig or C pig, and also how well each type responds to treatment, animal health company Pfizer stated.
As part of with the programme, producers then practice the ABC concept and they are provided with tools to run the program on their farms.
If a pig producer can spot a sick pig early on, “the treatment choices are much more likely to lead to better responses,” said veterinarian Walter Heuser, Pfizer Animal Health’s swine business unit director.
The new training program has been made possible by Canadian swine veterinarians and a Pfizer animal health branch.
