British pig industry’s “green” concern

04-12-2006 | |

“Green” issues have become a major concern. The British pig industry is looking toward its environmental credentials in overcoming these environmental issues.

In ensuring that the pig industry comes together and pulls in the same direction, the British Pig Executive (BPEX) is joining forces with other organisations with the focus of creating an environmental strategy.

The main aim of this strategy is to coordinate the pig industry together with governmental activities to:

  • Identify areas of co-operation and collaboration between the industry, the government and agencies.
  • Develop a common vision to achieve a sustainable environment and production industry.

“We are working with Defra, the NPA, NFU and the Environment Agency on this because we have common goals in seeing a sustainable environment. One of the elements will be the appointment of a consultant to put the flesh on the bones of the discussion document and help turn it into a finished product,” said Mick Sloyan, BPEX Chief Executive.
