British expect large turnout at pig rally

29-02-2008 | |

The British National Pig Association is expecting several hundreds of demonstrators at a rally for the pig industry in the centre of London on March 4th next.

Permission has been given to demonstrators to bring the pig ‘Winnie’ which attended earlier a similar demonstration.

The rally will pass Downing Street, the official residence of the British Prime Minister, and the Houses of Parliament.

Several members of parliament have promised to take part in the demonstration or to talk to a delegation. The aim of the demonstration is to focus attention on the difficult situation the British pig industry is in.

Pig producers are calling on the public to buy pork, bacon and ham with the British Quality Standard Mark to support the national pig industry.

More information can be found on the website of the National Pig Association.
