Merial Brazil has announced that the Brazilian Ministry of Agriculture, MAPA has approved the use of Circovac in piglets. MAPA granted the approval for piglets on the 20th of November 2008. Circovac for sows and gilts was launched by Merial Brazil in August 2007.
Since the launch over 1.3 million doses have been administered.© The ability to use Circovac in sows, gilts and piglets provides Brazilian swine producers with complete flexibility and options to protect their herds from PCV2.
Circovac for sows, gilts and piglets is an inactivated vaccine against Porcine Circovirus type 2 (PCV2) that has been registered in Brazil for administration to sows, gilts (2 ml/dose) and piglets (0.5 ml/dose).
The piglet approval in Brazil is the result of extensive research that established the benefits of vaccinating piglets by reducing mortality and improving productivity. For over ten years Merial has been a world leader in research into PCV2 disease.© The Circovac piglet research was lead by Dr. Akio Saito of the Merial Regulatory Affairs Department in Brazil and Dr. Edson Bordin with the Merial Large Animal team.©
