In Western Australia, a laser guided pork cutting robot is being used in a major pork processing plant.
Liney Valley is using a $700,000 robot at its plant, and according to general manager, Ron Penn of the meat and livestock division, “It scans the carcass…takes an image of it and then directs the robot exactly where it should be cutting.”
Accuracy Penn further added that the robot is accurate in its method and waste caused by accidental cuts to the stomach occurs less frequently.
The Federal Government provided the company with a grant (which it had to match dollar for dollar) on condition that they permit other companies to view the robot working.
The robot resembles ones used in car manufacturing.
