African Swine Fever in Krasnodar: Russians cull over 3,000 pigs

One of the recent outbreaks of African Swine Fever in Russia’s Krasnodar region has been reported to the World Organization for Animal Health (OIE). In the village of Novonickolayevskaya, over 3,000 pigs had to be culled early August.

In the outbreak, which was discovered on August 1, 18 pigs had died and 67 were found susceptible. As a preventative measure, the remaining 3,344 pigs were destroyed.

Rosselkhoznadzor deputy head Dr Evgeny Nepoklonov reported to the OIE that the samples were sent to the regional laboratory in Krapotkin, and tested positive by PCR test, confirming ASF.

Krasnador borders on the Black Sea and the Sea of Azov, and shares it southern  border with Georgia. To the north is its neighbour, the similarly with ASF-stricken Rostov district.

The Rosselkhoznadzor itself reported briefly on the outbreak.
