Two new outbreaks of ASF in Russia
This week two new outbreaks of African Swine Fever (ASF) were reported in the Rostov region and the Smolensk region of Russia,reported Rosselhoznadzor.
According to the report, on the western part of the May Day village, Rostov, local hunters found two carcasses of wild boars. Tests have confirmed the presence of ASF virus.
Also, a new outbreak of ASF has been reported in Shumyachsky district of the Smolensk region, said the report.
It is noted that the genetic material of the causative agent of ASF has been found during the study of pathological material, selected from a wild boar, in the Shumyachsky district.
Currently the Rosselkhoznadzor departments for Bryansk and Smolensk regions are carrying out measures to prevent the further spread of infection.
The ASF situation in the Smolensk region is very complicated. According to Rosselkhoznadzor, during 2013 there were 23 ASF outbreaks reported.
Also according to Rosselkhoznadzor, as of November 11 in the Russian Federation it has been reported 165 outbreaks of ASF including 81 among the wild boars.
